The coarse focus stop marks the phase position at which the model is focused by restricting the movement of the coarse focus knob. (Movement of the state of the fine focus knob is not restricted.) Once the coarse focus stop is clamped in place, the coarse focus knob can not be used to stage any more.

In fact, once the coarse focus knob is clamped in place the focus position, a crude attention can be achieved simply by the next time the coarse focus knob as far as that goes. This function is useful when viewing these specimens one after the other. If the coarse focus stop is not used, the gross stop focus should be relaxed as far as (by as far as that goes in the direction opposite to that which is indicated by the arrow on the base of the microscope.) Using the coarse focus stop to the model in the picture, turn the coarse focus stop ring as far as that goes in the direction indicated by the arrow on the base of the microscope (approximately 270 °).

The coarse focus stop is clamped in place. When changing the model, the lower the stage by only the coarse focus knob. After changing the model, gently raise the level by only the coarse focus knob as far as that goes. The sample should be in focus when the stage was raised as it will go, use the fine focus knob to the model in perfect focus.
