Helios on the PlayStation3 PDF Manual Installation
Dedicated server operating system with optimized performance (40% more memory available) is execution time of Java 1.5 pre-installed; Easy maintenance shell from CD; HELIOS services are pre-installed as a test driveI wanted to install and test the Linux distribution Helios, so I downloaded the ISO image of your servers, burned a blank CD in and quickly headed to our PS3.
Here are the instructions for installation and first impressions of HELIOS PS3 Linux Server. Under a basic agreement with Terra Software Solutions (makers of Yellow Dog Linux), Helios Software GmbH, leading developer of cross-platform networking, PDF and image server solutions for Linux, and Mac systems Windows, released today a distribution of Linux for the Sony PlayStation3 game console.
The distribution is a modified version of Yellow Dog Linux (YDL) and is optimized to use the PS3 as a test of the servers. The installation process took almost 6-7 minutes (not including the PS3′s hard disk format and installation of other operating systems). Things needed: 1. USB flash drive or memory card (PS3 can read only SD / miniSD memory card, Memory Stick PRO (Duo) and CompactFlash).
As an alternative, you can use a portable hard drive, like me did.2. USB keyboard and mouse so you can surf through your HELIOS PS3 Linux, and to return to the PS3 OS.3. Last but not least the HELIOS PS3 Linux ISO image, which can always be downloaded from Softpedia.
