Microsoft Free Anti Virus and Anti Spyware Release Newsletter PDF Reference
What does the internet say about you? Want an interesting way to spend a little time on the internet? Think you’re an anonymous entity? Try typing your own name into Google™ and you may be much more entertained than you think. The internet is filled with public information, and as that continues to increase it becomes more important that individuals not only know what is out there, but maintain its accuracy. A bit of caution; you may have been born with the name you have but often times so were other people. The name you see on a search engine may not be
your own.

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition PDF User Guide
How does Norton AntiVirus prevent infections?
A virus is simply a computer program designed in such a way that, when run, it attaches a copy of itself to another computer program or document. Thereafter, whenever the infected program is run or a document containing a macro virus is opened, the attached virus program is activated and attaches itself to yet other programs and documents. In addition to replicating, viruses are generally programmed to deliver a payload.
Most viruses simply display a message on a particular trigger date. Some, however, are programmed specifically to damage data by corrupting programs, deleting files, or reformatting disks. Symantec engineers track reported outbreaks of computer viruses to identify new viruses. Once a virus is identified, information about the virus (a virus signature) is stored in a virus definitions file, which contains the necessary information to detect and eliminate the virus. When Norton AntiVirus scans for viruses, it is searching for these telltale virus signatures.

Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS v8 or v9 PDF User Manual
Disinfection
This section provides some general information about disinfection. It does not explain how to disinfect a computer of specific viruses, as disinfection methods are varied and can be virus-specific. It is recommended that you get information about the virus (see below), then either use the Sophos website for help with disinfection or contact Sophos technical support.
2.1 Getting information about the virus
If Sophos Anti-Virus reports a virus, first isolate the infected computers from the network and internet. Write down the name of the virus, then, from an uninfected computer, look up its virus analysis on the Sophos website. The virus analysis search page is located at Sophos website. The analysis tells you what types of file the virus infects, and provides information about disinfection. It may also include a link to detailed disinfection instructions. If there are no instructions, or if the virus analysis tells you to seek advice, contact Sophos technical support.

Sophos Anti-Virus for DOS/Windows 3.1x PDF User Manual
Using Sophos Anti-Virus
This section describes how to use Sophos Anti-Virus to carry out on-demand scans. This is controlled from the command line. Sophos Anti-Virus can scan floppy disks, hard disks, network drives and memory. It is normal to check the hard disk first and then any suspect floppy disks.
Secure booting
Before running anti-virus software, it is essential to secure boot the computer from a write-protected, clean system floppy disk. Failure to do this
may result in some stealth viruses not being detected on disk. 1.Switch the computer off. Do not use ‘Ctrl’+‘Alt’+‘Delete’ because this is intercepted by some viruses. 2.Insert the write-protected system floppy disk into drive A:. Switch the computer on and let it boot from the floppy.
