Using the Keyboard As you may have noticed, the Kindle keyboard is slightly different than a standard computer keyboard. The letters and numbers work like you’d expect, fortunately. For capital letters, press the up-arrow key (this is the Shift key) in the lower-left corner of the keyboard. This will capitalize just the next letter. If you hold the Shift key down, any other letters you press will be capitalized until you release
the Shift key.

To type a number, press the ALT key in the lower-left corner of the keyboard, then press a number key at the top of the keyboard (Kindle 1 has separate number keys at the top of the keyboard). The / and . symbols are on the keyboard. To type other characters, press the SYM button, and select the character from the list. On Kindle 1, you can also press the Shift key and one of the right-hand number keys to get a common
symbol.
