Get started with your VU-notebook 1. On your VU-notebook standard VU-software is installed. Read the information below and follow the instructions very carefully, in order to optimize the installation with your personal settings. Before starting your notebook, please note the Vista Product Key. You can find this key on the Microsoft sticker on the bottom of your notebook. Windows Vista Setup When you switch on your VU-notebook, the Windows Vista Setup automatically starts.

This can take several minutes. Follow the next instructions: • Click Next in the window with the settings for country, date/time and keyboard. • Fill in the Vista Product Key. (Take note: you can fill in the Product Key later). Click Next. • Accept in the next window the licence conditions and click Next. • Fill in a username and password (and remember and make a note of these!) and click Next. • Fill in eventually a Computername and click Next. • Select the option Use Recommended Settings in the window Help Protect Windows Automatically and click Next. • Change eventually the date and time settings and click Next. • Click Start to finish the Setup. Workpace After the setup you will see the Windows Vista Welcome Center on your screen. Also next window will appear. This concerns Workpace, the RSI prevention software: • Choose Run Setup Wizard (5 mins). • You can set up your personal settings using the Setup Wizard. Browse through the wizard and follow the instructions. • If you choose Cancel, this screen will re-appear next time you start up Windows.

Wireless VU-campusnet 2. When you are on the VU-campus, you can access the wireless network VU-campusnet with your VU-notebook. Take note: to access a wireless network, you must activate the wireless switch of your notebook. If your VU-notebook is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi-2540 or Xa-2528, please check the bolt on the front side of your notebook. If your VU-notebook is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Li-2727 C540 of Li-2727 T2390, press simultaneous the keys [Fn] [F1]. The window Wireless Station Option appears on your screen. Choose On at the option WLAN. When you are within reach of the wireless network on the VU-campus, the next pop-up will appear on your screen. Take note, this can take several minutes. Click on the pop-up. Next window will appear: • At Username and Password fill in your VU-net-id-username and password. • Leave Domain empty. • Tick the checkbox at Save user credentials.

If you do not select this, this window will appear frequently on your screen. • Click OK. (when you are using your VU-notebook the first time on the VU-campus, it is possible that you have to fill in this window twice!) The connection to the wireless network is now enabled. Each time you switch on your notebook within reach of the wireless network, the connection will be made automatically. ! The connection will automatically disable if you switch off your notebook or if you are out of reach of the wireless network. 3 Software 3. The standard VU-software consists of software programs which you will need for your study on a regular basis (obviously depending on your study subject). The VU owns the licences for the use of this software. This means that you can use these programs as long as you are registered as a VU-student. If you are no longer registered as a VU student, you may no longer use the software and we kindly request you to remove it from your ! notebook. This also applies to the software you have purchased via SURFSPOT.NL !

When you are not a VU-student anymore, you can install the software Fujitsu-Siemens supplies with the Operating System Recovery DVD’s you received with your VU-notebook. (put DVD 1 in the DVD-player, reboot your notebook from DVD and follow the instructions). 3.1 Anti-Virus There is no anti-virus program on your VU-notebook. We leave you to choose the program you want. In your browser you can find at Favorits, Anti-Virus Tips links to some good (freeware) anti-virus programs. ! We insistently recommend you to install an anti-virus program as soon as possible! 3.2 Change language version software The installed software is a UK version (if possible). You can change easily the language settings of MS Office 2007 and Workpace to Dutch. MS Office • Select Start > All Programs > MS Office > MS Office Tools > MS Office 2007 Language Settings. • Next window MS Office 2007 Language Settings will appear: • Select Nederlands via the pull-down menu’s on the tab Display Language and click OK. Workpace You can change the language settings in Workpace by choosing Language and Dutch in the menu Preferences. 3.4 Euroglot On your VU-notebook, the translation program Euroglot is installed. You need to register Euroglot with following serial number: N6VK78MXVA Take note: you can only register when your VU-notebook has a connection with the Internet. You can register as follows: • Start Euroglot via the menu Start > VU Applications > Euroglot • The window Licence data appears. • Click on Add Licence. • The window Activation appears….
