Configuring Thunderbird for Windows XP PDF Manual Guide

This document assumes that you already have Thunderbird installed on your computer are ready to configure Thunderbird. If you do not, you can find the software at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/ and it can be downloaded for free.

Creating a New E-mail Account from Install

1) Upon launch, Thunderbird will ask if you want to import settings and mail folders from other applications. Choose
2) Click Next>
3) A pop up window appears.
4) Select Email account
5) Click Next>
6) Enter Your Name: which will be the name that will be displayed to people when you send messages to them.
7) Enter your Email Address:
8) Click Next>
9) Select your Incoming Server. You can select POP (recommended) or IMAP. POP creates a copy of the mail on the server and saves it on your computer. IMAP is a mirror image of your E-mail account that is online.
10) Enter Incoming Server: mail.sdsu.edu
11) Enter Outgoing Server: mail.sdsu.edu
12) Click Next>
13) Enter your Incoming User Name: This will be the part of your e-mail address before the @ symbol.
14) Click Next>
15) Enter Account Name:
16) Click Next>
17) Uncheck the Download messages now
18) Click Finish
19) Go to Tools > Account Settings. Select the Server Settings category on the left side under the e-mail address.
20) Under the Security Settings, select SSL. The Port automatically changes to 995.
