BMW Motorrad USA recommends that an authorized BMW Motorcycle Retailer perform this installation. Before installation, one should carefully consider whether one is in possession of the necessary technical skills and workshop tools to complete the installation properly. If not, any BMW Motorcycle Retailer can perform the installation.
1. Refer to the relevant model Installation Instructions. Mount the CB on the left handlebar using the hardware supplied.
2. Route CB cables down handlebar to blue Com/Voice System harness line-in plug.
3. Connect the A.A.W.D/GPS plug (M.) if desired.
4. Install a BMW CB antenna and attach grounding straps (P.) as per connection diagram.
5. Secure all wires and cables with zip ties and check critical control functions for clearance.

It is the drivers’ responsibility to operate vehicle in a safe manner, ensuring the unit will not interfere with control function and remaining attentive to the road environment at all times.
1. With helmet headset connected to the BMW CB Communicator turn the ignition switch ON.
2. Rotate the SQUELCH knob on the BMW CB Communicator fully clockwise.
3. Adjust the OFF/ON CB Volume knob to a comfortable volume level and select the desired CB channel.
4. Rotate the SQUELCH knob counterclockwise until the background noise is removed.
5. Depressing the MODE button once can access weather channels, then select one of ten weather channels with the CH UP/CH DN buttons.
Notes on Weather Channels: The National Weather Service uses several special radio frequencies to provide continuous reports of the local weather conditions and forecasts throughout the United States. Taped weather messages are repeated every four to six minutes on a 24-hour basis and are routinely revised every one to three hours, or more frequently if needed. During severe weather, the routine weather broadcasts will be interrupted with special weather warning messages. The BMW CB Communicator is designed to receive all these special weather frequencies plus three international marine frequencies. A NOAA Weather Radio Network Frequency pamphlet is enclosed to help you identify the frequencies relevant to your geographic area. The BMW CB Communicator receives CB, National Weather Service and international marine weather broadcast frequencies as listed:
6. Turning Function ‘Beep’ On or Off: Depress MODE button twice. LCD will display ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’. Change selection with CHL UP or CHL DN buttons.
7. Select HI/LO PWR to control the transmit (TX) power output. Use low power setting to reduce distortion and improve clarity when communicating at close range, and to reduce intercom distortion sometimes heard while riding two up.

The maximum allowable CB transmitting power is limited by FCC regulations. The antenna is a major factor determining signal strength and reception range. Install the CB antenna to ensure a minimum distance of 18” between the antenna and the operator or passenger of the motorcycle is maintained at all times. Do not try to make any internal adjustments. Only qualified technical personnel may make internal adjustments. Internal adjustments and/or modifications can lead to illegal operation as defined by FCC Rules and Regulations, Part 95. Illegal
operation can result in serious consequences.
