Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition PDF User Guide

How does Norton AntiVirus prevent infections?
A virus is simply a computer program designed in such a way that, when run, it attaches a copy of itself to another computer program or document. Thereafter, whenever the infected program is run or a document containing a macro virus is opened, the attached virus program is activated and attaches itself to yet other programs and documents. In addition to replicating, viruses are generally programmed to deliver a payload.

Most viruses simply display a message on a particular trigger date. Some, however, are programmed specifically to damage data by corrupting programs, deleting files, or reformatting disks. Symantec engineers track reported outbreaks of computer viruses to identify new viruses. Once a virus is identified, information about the virus (a virus signature) is stored in a virus definitions file, which contains the necessary information to detect and eliminate the virus. When Norton AntiVirus scans for viruses, it is searching for these telltale virus signatures.

Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X, version 4.9 PDF Startup Guide

Create the central installation
You must create the central installation on a Mac that meets the system requirements in sections 1.1 and 1.2.
1. Go to the Mac server, or a Mac workstation that has access to the server. Download the Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac network installer from the Sophos website and run it. Alternatively, insert the Sophos Network Install CD. On the desktop, double-click the CD icon. In the window that is displayed, open the Sophos Anti-Virus OS X folder. Double-click Sophos Anti-Virus Network.pkg.
2. A Mac installer is run. Click Continue. Follow the steps until the installation is finished.

A central installation is placed in the Sophos Anti-Virus/ESOSX folder on the volume you specified. You now use a program called Sophos Update Manager to configure the central installation to update from Sophos (section 2.2) workstations to update from the central installation (section 2.3) workstations to send virus alerts to the server (section 2.4). After configuration, Update Manager automatically downloads updates from Sophos to the central installation, from which workstations automatically update.

Top 12 Desktop Customization PFD Reference

There’s more to Windows XP than meets the eye. To get the best WinXP experience, you must look past the OS’ (operating system’s) attention-grabbing interface and explore the Desktop’s advanced features and functionality. Only by delving into Control Panel applets, context menus, dialog boxes, and the system Registry (a directory of user preferences and system settings) can you mold WinXP to meet all of your needs.

(NOTE: Some of our tips require Registry tweaks, so be extremely careful while following our directions. Whenever you plan to edit the Registry or any important system files, you should always back them up first. One mistake can generate dire consequences.

1. Modify the logon screen. You can modify the logon screen (also referred to as the login screen) so that it presents an image of your choosing rather than the default WinXP logon screen. All you need to do is replace the existing Logonui.exe file with a customized version that includes a pointer to the new logon screen.
